SpotiVit

Spotify inside Revit — because work deserves a soundtrack

· By Prajwal Kumar · 1 min read

SpotiVit is a playful proof-of-concept that brings Spotify controls directly into Revit.
Designed as a weekend experiment, it demonstrates how even “closed” AEC environments can connect seamlessly with modern APIs.

Instead of switching between apps, users can play, pause, and change tracks right from the Revit ribbon.

How It Works

  • Built with pyRevit as the add-in framework
  • Powered by Spotipy, the Python client for Spotify’s Web API
  • Secure OAuth authentication for Spotify accounts
  • Custom Revit UI buttons to:
    • Detect active playback devices
    • Play/pause music
    • Switch playlists (e.g. AEC Flow by Bugs&Binary)

Why It Matters

SpotiVit isn’t just about music.
It’s a demonstration of integration—showing that AEC tools like Revit don’t have to stay siloed.

Key lessons:

  • APIs unlock new workflows, even in traditional design software
  • Authentication and web integrations are approachable for tool-builders
  • Small hacks can spark big ideas in AEC tech

Status

SpotiVit is not a production-ready tool.
It’s a weekend hack that showcases what’s possible when curiosity meets code.

But it stands as an example of how Bugs & Binary experiments turn into real insights for AEC teams.
